Indie Game Developer

Hi, I'm Phillipe Lira.

I have 2+ years of experience in game development. So far I have created four indie games in Unity, this personal website and I am also working on a new game, The Forbidden Curse.
Creating games is a big passion of mine, and soon I hope to be able to do it professionally.

NEWS

The Forbidden Curse is an upcoming third person action fantasy game that I have been developing for the past 14 months. It has a leveling system, upgradable abilities, a main story and some side missions to help level up, lore books to enrich the world's story and various enemy types requiring you, the player, to learn the usage of the abilities.

In this demo, there are three enemy types available, some UI options are disabled on purpose to prevent spoilers. The main level is for demostration purposes only and could be considered spoilers too due to enviromental storytelling. This is simply a demostration of the combat system to collect feedback for improvements, none of it is final and during the process of development, things change.

THE BEGINNING

When my journey to become a game developer began, these 2D games were the first steps. They were simple enough as an entry point but complex enough to give me a challenge to overcome. For any solo developer out there reading this, start your journey with these types of games. They will teach you the fundamentals of game development without too many barriers to frustate you.

THE PRESENT

Upon becoming more experienced and after buying online courses to improve my knowledge, following tutorials on youtube, I was excited to continue my journey with 3D games and I intend to continue developing more 3D games in the future. While Unity is a great game engine and all my games up to this point have been done in Unity, my plan is to move on to Unreal Engine 5 and improve my knowledge in C++.

WHAT THE FUTURE HOLDS

The current goal is to finish the development of The Forbidden Curse and release the game on Steam, Playstation and Xbox. A mobile version could come in the future if the game ends up doing well on any of those platforms.

But what about the future? Well... My next game project after The Forbidden Curse will be a first person single player sci-fi shooter that takes place outside the solar system. You will play as the sole survivor of the human race after waking up from a long cryosleep. For this game, I will be moving on from Unity to Unreal Engine and be placing a heavy focus on improving my C++ knowledge. C++ is a widely used language that is absolutely essential in this industry and I plan to have a good grasp on both, C# (Unity) and C++ (UE).

In addition, I will also be finishing up my android app development and returning to Unity to create mobile versions of my games and have them available in my app. Furthermore, in 2025, I will be going to a private university to get a proper degree in game development. The degree should take 2 - 5 years to complete, depending on what degree I choose to do and after that time... Well, I do not know but I have plans.
